Install Microsoft Document Imaging Office 2007

Start the 2007 Office setup process. Click Customize. On the Installation Options tab, select Not Available for all items except for the items under Microsoft Office Document Imaging, and then click Install Now. If you perform a standard upgrade to Office 2010 from 2007 Office, MODI will be removed together with 2007 Office.
- Hi, Microsoft has dropped MODI (Microsoft Office Document Imaging) completely from Office 2010. However, you can continue to use Office 2007 MODI with Office 2010, either by running parallel installations, or by using your Office 2007 disc to install MODI after Office 2010 is installed.
- Microsoft Document Image Writer feature is not installed by default when you run Office 2007 setup. So in order to open and view or print the MDI files with Office 2007 installed, you should install Microsoft Document Imaging Writer from control panel after you have installed Office 2007 successfully.

With the release of Office 2010, Microsoft removed Microsoft Office Document Imaging from the application suite because of the newer version’s advanced PDF printing and formatting options. Nevertheless, if you have Office 2010 or 2013 on your computer and want to install the MODI virtual printer, you can do so using the old 2007 installation disc or by downloading a free utility from Microsoft.
Download and Install SharePoint Designer 2007
1.Open your Web browser and visit the Microsoft Download Center website (link in Resources). Download the SharePoint Designer 2007 utility and save it to a folder on your computer.
2.Open the folder in Windows Explorer where you saved the SharePoint Designer 2007 setup file. Click the installation file, and then accept the software license. After the installation options screen appears, click the “Customize” button.
3.Select the “Not Available” options for “Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer,” “Office Shared Features” and “Office Tools” on the Installation Options tab. Click the “+” symbol next to the “Office Tools” label, and then click the down arrow labeled “Microsoft Office Document Imaging.”
4.Click the “Install Now” button, and then click “Close.” Wait a few seconds for the installer to install the Microsoft Office Document Imaging virtual printer on your computer. After installing the Microsoft Office Document Image Writer, you can print with it just as you would a standard hardware printer. Documents you print with the MODI printer are viewable on any Windows system with Microsoft Office or the SharePoint Designer installed.
Install From Microsoft Office 2007 Media
1.Insert the Office 2007 installation disc into the optical drive the computer. When prompted to do so, click the “Install” button to start the setup process, and then review and accept software license.
2.Microsoft Office Imaging 2007 Download
Click “Customize” to open the Installation Options window, and then click the “Installation Options” tab. Click the down arrow and choose “Not Available” for all of the options displayed.
3.Click the “+” symbol next to the Office Tools label, and then click the down arrow next to Microsoft Office Document Imaging. Select the “Run All from My Computer” option, and then click the “Install Now” button. After installing the MODI printer from the Office 2007 media, click the “Close” button and remove the installation disc.
Tip
- If you only need to open or view documents created with the Microsoft Office Document Imaging virtual printer, you can install the MODI-to-TIFF converter (link in Resources). After converting the files, you can view them in any Windows image viewer program.
